Social Farming

Social Farming has both therapeutic and practical objectives. Residents at Oum el Nour dedicate a portion of their therapy time to growing vegetables and tending to chickens, geese and goats. This contact with nature and connection to animals assists residents in developing emotional management skills and building a new relationship with their environment. After several months of implementation, social farming activities have succeeded in drastically reducing costs for residents’ meals and offer the opportunity for generating an income to subsidize treatment costs.

Art Therapy

Artistic expression is a key component in our treatment and participants in our inpatient and outpatient treatment engage in painting, drawing, and creatively re-purposing everyday objects. Our beneficiaries produce art to express their hopes, fears, and frustrations and deal with life’s stresses in a constructive way. Art projects become a healthy hobby that former substance users can continue after treatment to fill their life with an enjoyable and meaningful activity and, potentially, a vocation.

In development: Solidarity Kitchen

Oum el Nour is currently developing a Solidarity Kitchen project in its inpatient centers with several benefits for the residents. By working side by side with a professional chef, residents will manage food preparation in the centers and build a food delivery business. This project aims to minimize costs for meal preparation in the men’s and women’s inpatient centers, provide an opportunity for residents to develop cooking and business management skills, and generate an income to subsidize treatment costs through food delivery sales in the Keserwan region.
