Since 2007, Drug Free Lebanon, a 501(c)3 organization, has worked to support Oum el Nour, a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization registered in Lebanon under notification 120/ad, in providing valuable services to prevent and combat substance use in Lebanon.

 

Our Mission

We work to support the mission of Oum el Nour to continue offering a comprehensive range of therapeutic services to prevent substance use in Lebanon and help individuals, from Lebanon and abroad, overcome substance dependencies. This support takes many forms, including fundraising, raising awareness about substance use issues in Lebanon, and scientific collaboration.


Oum el Nour’s Services:

  • Prevention program to raise awareness about the risks of substance use

  • Reception Center for information, counseling, diagnosis, and referral to the best treatment option

  • 15-month Inpatient treatment program for men and women, with a 72-bed capacity for men and 36-bed capacity for women

  • Follow-Up care for former residents to support them in living substance-free lives

  • Outpatient treatment for substance users who have not yet reached dependency

Awards:

  • Oum el Nour was the first NGO in the Middle East to win the European Prevention Prize (1st Place) from the Council of Europe’s Pompidou Group in 2012

Oum el Nour is part of the following networks and committees:

  • Lebanese Network of Therapeutic Communities, which also includes: Cénacle de la Lumière, Nusroto al-Anashid, and Jeunesse Contre la Drogue.

  • Drug Addiction Committee: We are the civil society representative in the Drug Addiction Committee along with representatives from the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Social Affairs and Ministry of Interior, to promote treatment alternatives for persons arrested on drug charges.

  • The technical committee to develop and guide the implementation of the Inter-Ministerial Substance Use Response Strategy for Lebanon, 2016-2021 a process co-coordinated by the Council of Europe’s Pompidou Group.
